Events!

We believe that others should accept our children who have Down syndrome, and by mutual exposure and awareness this acceptance will grow.  Therefore, TBODS hosts community trips for families to attend.  Some of these trips have included water slides, Marine World, and Music In The Park Picnics.  By attending these community events as a group, others learn that our children are ‘more alike than different’ from them and their children.  These events also provide a relaxing and fun filled time for our families to build strong relationships with each other.

Connect

Community Groups

TBODS community groups use Facebook to connect you with other families living with Down syndrome right in your neighborhood. Volunteer run community groups plan monthly meet ups, group classes, holiday parties and mom’s night out events based on the groups interests. Groups are organized by county, join a community group today!

Buddy Walk

This is our primary fundraising event each year. We host the one-mile walk that promotes understanding and acceptance of Down syndrome. The day includes lunch and a T-shirt to all those who register. At the finish line, the party continues with bounce houses, dance competitions and more! Annually, we give 7% of our income from this event back to the National Down Syndrome Society for their research and advocacy efforts.

Community Events

Community events enable families to enjoy fun social outings together in the community all throughout the year. Favorite annual events include Kite Flying Day, SF Zoo trip and Water Park day. Most events are free or low cost for TBODS families. Check out the event calendar to join our next event!

Educate

PARENT TRAINING

TBODS has a rich history of providing a variety of information to parents in topics that are pertinent to Down syndrome. This information has been distributed in the form of conferences, conventions, emails, and 1:1 parent conversations. Our most recent training welcomed advocate Jeffie Muntifering to the valley to discuss all things IEP with a group of parents. We work hard to locate and inform our members about useful trainings that TBODS provides scholarships to.

Celebrate

Annual Winter Social & summer baseball game

In the summer, TBODS hosts families at the Modesto Nuts to celebrate the start of summer and enjoy a favorite pastime as a community! We have had many families meet for the very first time and start connections here and reconnect with friends they have not seen all year long! One of our members is always welcome to throw the first pitch and we get a shout out on the big screen!

In December TBODS hosts a Winter Holiday Social with brunch, dancing and pictures with Santa! We have held these at the Stockton’s Children’s Museum, John’s Incredible Pizza and local clubhouse halls. These socials are among our most popular activities because they provide a wonderful opportunity for families to relax and network in an environment where people will understand them and their loved ones without an explanation. Each year families comment on how they truly enjoyed getting together at such joyous times
